An update on Green List courses and how they now open up work visa eligibility for the partners of student visa holders.
Work visa eligibility. Individuals may now qualify for a work visa if their partner holds a student visa for studying a Level 7a or 8 qualification listed on the Green List. This reflects changes to immigration instructions that enhance work eligibility for partners of student visa holders.
If you are eligible for a student visa in New Zealand, you can support your spouse's application for a Partner of a Student Work Visa. This visa lets your spouse work in New Zealand for the same duration as your student visa, and they don't need a job offer to apply.
To qualify, you and your spouse must be in a genuine relationship and your spouse must meet the usual health and character requirements. Their application must include proof of the relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate.
Once approved, your spouse can work for any employer in New Zealand — they aren't restricted to a specific job or industry.
