Study in New Zealand and Get a Work Visa for Your Spouse
An update on Green List courses and how they now open up work visa eligibility for the partners of student visa holders.
Work visa eligibility
Individuals may now qualify for a work visa if their partner holds a student visa for studying a Level 7a or 8 qualification listed on the Green List. This update reflects changes to immigration instructions, enhancing work eligibility for partners of student visa holders.
If you are eligible for a student visa in New Zealand, you can support your spouse's visa application for a Partner of a Student Work Visa. This visa allows your spouse to work in New Zealand for the same duration as your student visa — and they do not need a job offer in New Zealand to apply.
To qualify, you and your spouse must be in a genuine relationship, and your spouse must meet the usual health and character requirements. Their visa application must include proof of your relationship, such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate.
If approved, your spouse can work for any employer in New Zealand and isn't restricted to a specific job or industry.
